How important is GPS on a bike?
I enjoy the GPS function on every road bike trip. How hard was it for me to find the right way! Today I cycle new routes without stopping and I know exactly how far I drive and how many meters in altitude it will be. And even traveling in completely unknown territory, I can just start cycling and know exactly what to expect. Phantastic!
Garmin
The current leader in GPS bike computers is Garmin. The Edge 1030 is the top model from Garmin. It’s the GPS bike computer with the widest range of features.
The Garmin Edge 1030 is the model of choice when price does not matter.
The slightly smaller and more compact model from Garmin is the Edge 820. I used the Edge 820 for two years until June 2019. It is reliable and does everything a GPS bike computer should be able to do.
The Garmin Edge 820 is for those who think the Edge 1030 is too big and too expensive. But it should be a model of the market leader.
Wahoo
Interesting are the two models of Wahoo: the Wohoo Elemnt and the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. Both don’t have a touch screen. The handling is maybe even better because of that. The readability of the display is very good.
The two Wahoo Elemnt are first choice if it should be a modern design and no touch screen.
Lezyne
Lezyne has a similar concept to Wahoo. With the Mega C and the Mega XL, Lezyne has two models without a touchscreen on the market.
The two Lezyne models should appeal to those who find the top-of-the-line Garmin and Wahoo models too expensive, like the display and are looking for a high-performance GPS bike computer.
Sigma
With the ROX 12.0 Sigma has finally launched a GPS bike computer with map display. The price is located at the upper level.
Sigma is the model of choice when money does not matter. And Garmin isn’t wanted.
Teasi
Price interesting are the models of Teasi. With the ONE3 eXtend Teasi offers a GPS bike computer, which has all the necessary features despite some weaknesses.
Teasi is the first choice, especially if the price is in the foreground.
Polar
With the V650, Polar offers a low priced model, which also has all necessary features.
The polar is rather something for those who have not found the right one yet. And for whatever reason, do not want to opt for another model.
Don’t forget:
When choosing a GPS bike computer always pay attention to what accessories and which sensors are included in the price. Existing sensors may still be used with the new bike computer.
